National Civil Engineering Symposium 2009

Started merely as a talk catering to Metro Manila students, the event has grown to attract hundreds of students, faculty and even practicing engineers from different parts of the country. This year's symposium entitled GYRATE aims to inculcate to the students and new engineers our roles and responsibilities in nation building, and touches the topics synergy of computers and Civil Engineering, facilitation of Civil Engineering in economized global solutions, and instigating the passion to lead in the Civil Engineering profession.

Last year, the National CE Symposium was participated by about 1,200 delegates from different regions in the country. Now on its 4th year, it aims to bring together more Civil Engineering students from all the universities and campuses nationwide. With the vision to inform, educate, and enthuse, the organization invited some experts to provide discussions to encourage the participants to pursue their careers as professionals here in the Philippines and be the instrument for its development.

CE Company Talk and College Lab Tour

To know more and to map one's forthcoming future, the UP ACES has come up with this constructive event. Different CE companies are given the opportunity to present themselves to best and brightest civil engineering students. On the other side of the coin is that these students broaden their horizon, in terms of knowledge in possible career growth paths. This will enhance the awareness of the students to these companies and be able to grasp an idea of the life working in a company. Company portfolio, a mini-booklet containing the profiles and information about different Civil Engineering companies, will also be given away to the participants to make these companies accessible to the country’s top students especially those from Visayas & Mindanao.

A lab tour is then facilitated where the students will be led to different UP CE Affiliate Laboratories where simulations and demos will be shown.

This activity is set on September 18 and 19 at the NISMED Conference Hall.

High School Career Talk and Open Lab

This event will give the high school students an overview of what civil engineering is – so as to arouse enthusiasm and passion for the field. In addition to this, to have more idea and familiarity in civil engineering, the students will also be led to different UP CE Affiliate Laboratories where simulations and demos will be shown. About 150 high school students are invited to attend. The activity is scheduled on September 16 at the Engineering Theater, UP Diliman.

Stick-wit-U

A new event that UP ACES launched coinciding with the UP Centennial year, it is was a university wide bridge building competition pioneered to challenge one's skill, dexterity, competence, and most of all, to bring out the essence and meaning of teamwork for everyone in the working party. This year, it will be a Metro Manila high school event which aims to draw together the future leaders of the nation in a fun competition of creativity and innovation. It also forges bonds among the students while discovering engineering in action.

It will be held on September 14 at the UP NISMED Auditorium. P6,000 awaits this year’s grand champion, and P3,500 and P2,500 for the runners-up.

CE Exhibit

Civil engineering, being a very broad and dynamic field, offers a wide array of innovations and technologies. The CE Exhibit promotes awareness and appreciation of the civil engineering profession by allowing different companies to showcase their different projects which are of interest to public. It will also be presenting different civil engineering breakthroughs and endorsing civil engineering laboratories present in the campus. The exhibit will be at the Lobby of UP College of Engineering and is open to more than 3,500 students and faculty from September 14 to September 19.
