First performed by Ballet Manila in 2000, The Naughty Daughter (also known in its original version as La Fille Mal Gardee) is a full-length production in two acts that tells the romantic adventures of Lise and Colas. The two lovers dance their way to get the approval of stern Mother Simone in a well-loved pas de deux and other numbers.
Lisa Macuja, Ballet Manila artistic director and principal dancer, counts The Naughty Daughter among her top ten favorite ballets to perform. “Lise is another of those spirited and frisky young girls I love playing. She’s in love with Colas, but is being married off to the Butterfly Boy, a rich but stupid character whose father wants the smart Lise to run his farm. The ballet is all about how she outwits him and marries Colas,” Lisa enthuses.
Using music by N. Herold, the Ballet Manila production was rehearsed by Russia’s Merited Artist Tatiana Udalenkova, Lisa’s mentor from the Russian Ballet Academy, and is choreographed and restaged by Russian People’s Artist Sergey Vikulov.
Lisa urges viewers to feel a light-hearted romantic rush this October through The Naughty Daughter as it portrays the joy and laughter of finding and fighting for love.
Also performing lead roles are Jennifer Rose Olayvar, Mylene Aggabao, Rudy de Dios, Gerardo Francisco and Jerome Espejo.
