'Children's Letters to God' Runs For One Weekend
posted on Wednesday, August 29, 2007Actor’s Actors Inc. (AAI) and Great.Events@Manila Inc. jointly present the smash off-Broadway musical “Children's Letters to God” at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City on Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2.

The musical will showcase the talents of the young cast that includes Aria Clemente, 2007 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) Over-all Champion of the World, Julia Abueva, Singapore-based thespian and singer, Micah dela Cruz, Tippy dos Santos, Moreen Guese, Vince Ching, the Sison brothers – Marek, Enzo, and Ruiz, Jaime Cabiling, and Nacho Tambunting.
“Dear God. Are you really invisible or is that just a trick?” “Dear God. How come you did all the miracles in the old days and you don't do any now?” These are just some of the hard-hitting questions and tell-it-like-it-is revelations that make up “Children's Letters to God,” the new musical inspired by the international best-selling book of the same title.

Taken directly from the letters of young people writing to “the Big G,” the musical follows the lives of five young friends as they voice beliefs, desires, questions and doubts common to all people but most disarmingly expressed by children. Sixteen tuneful songs and assorted scenes (some based on actual letters) explore timeless issues such as sibling rivalry, divorce, holidays, the loss of a beloved pet, the trials of being unathletic and first love.
This entertaining show carries a universal message, which crosses the boundaries of age, geography, and religion. Expressed in letters recited by five talented young actors (ranging from 9 -14 yrs.) that are both amusing and heartfelt, they ask questions like "God, how did you know you were God?" and "God, why do my feet stink?"
This family-friendly, feel good show is a reflection of all the questions that kids have for the Big Guy. It will make you remember yourself as an inquisitive kid while perhaps bringing a tear to your eye and definitely a smile to your face.
The show has been translated into several languages and has had performances around the world from Tel Aviv to Seoul to Singapore, Johannesburg, Madrid and Mexico City.

When it first opened in New York, critics raved about it. “New York Daily News” called it a "whimsical and charming family-oriented production about the innocent joys and sometimes simple sorrows of growing up."
“The New York Post” called it “cheery and uplifting.” “The New York Times” raved “’Children’s Letters to God’ has a sweet, warm heart.” “The Wall Street Journal's Zagat Theatre Survey” dubbed the show “a smile-making musical for all ages.”
Stuart Hample, the creator of the best selling book, has adapted “Children's Letters to God” from the page to the stage with music by David Evans (Birds of Paradise) and lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen ( No Way to Treat a Lady ). Bart Guingona directs with Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo as assistant director, Michael Williams as musical director, Denisa Reyes as choreographer and Gino Gonzales as production designer.
Children's Letters to God goes onstage on a limited run from August 31 to September 2 at the RCBC Plaza’s Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium. For ticket inquiries, please call Ticketworld at 891-9999 or visit www.childrensletterstogod.com.ph.
